Original Presentation: March 16, 2021

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling that can be primary or secondary. An estimated 2.8% of the population in Canada are affected, 15,000 in NL. Research has not yet proven if we can prevent lymphedema however prevention of infections with timely and consistent treatment is beneficial to patients and the healthcare system. There is a global lack of awareness of lymphedema as a chronic condition and it has no defined domain for diagnosis and treatment. Early identification and intervention is key to successful outcomes.
