About the Merger of CRNNL and CLPNNL
- When does the merger officially take effect?
The merger will become official and fully operational in approximately one year, (on April 15, 2026). Until then, CRNNL and CLPNNL will continue to operate separately. - What will the new College be called?
The merged regulatory body will be called the NL College of Nurses. It will regulate Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) across the province. - Will my fees be impacted as a result of this merger?
No. Fees will not be impacted as a result of the merger. - Will this change how I renew my license?
No. You will continue renewing your license with your current College until the merger takes effect. After April 15, 2026, licensing processes will be managed by the NL College of Nurses, with updates shared in advance. - Does this affect my scope of practice or designation?
No. Your designation (NP, RN, LPN, RPN) and scope of practice will remain unchanged. The merger does not change your professional role or responsibilities. - Will there be a new set of standards or a code of ethics?
Existing standards and codes will remain in place. Over time, the new College may harmonize general standards to ensure alignment, and nurses will be consulted throughout that process. - Who do I contact with questions during the transition?
Continue to follow us on social media and remember to check your inbox. Feel free to contact your current College (CRNNL or CLPNNL) for questions related to licensure, practice, and conduct until the merger is complete. - Will my continuing competency requirements change?
No CCP changes are planned at this time as a result of the merger to one nursing regulator. - How will I stay informed throughout this process?
You’ll receive updates through emails, newsletters, social media, and webinars. A dedicated webpage with FAQs and additional resources will also be launched soon as a means of keeping you informed during the transition. - Will the public be impacted by the merger of the two Colleges?
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians receive care from NPs, RNs, LPNs, and RPNs, each day in a wide array of instances. The public is able to be assured the care they receive from nurses is safe, ethical, and competent as a result of our organizations. The establishment of the NL College of Nurses will strengthen our commitment to the public and the profession.
