Nursing Education Program Approval
One of the professional self-regulating responsibilities of the College is to approve nursing education programs that prepare Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners for licensure.
Through the approval process, the College strives to promote excellence in nursing practice by ensuring nursing education programs are preparing graduates to achieve the entry-level competencies (RN or NP) to practice. Programs must receive approved status from Council to obtain the designation of an “approved program”.
Currently, two NP ELC documents are available on this webpage. The 2016 document are the ELCs currently used to inform the current entry to practice NP program and to which the nursing curriculum is aligned. The 2023 ELC document was approved by Council February 2023 and the Faculty of Nursing is currently updating the NP nursing curriculum to align with the 2023 NP ELCs and will be in effective by 2025.
