Call for Volunteers – CNPE:F/AA Exam Development Activities

The College is recruiting qualified NP Volunteers, who are currently practicing in Newfoundland & Labrador, for potential exam development opportunities (item writing and item review) related to the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam: Family/All-Ages (CNPE:F/AA). The College maintains a list of volunteers and provides that list to the exam vendor YardStick Assessment Strategies (YAS). YAS will contact volunteers as opportunities arise. Exam development sessions scheduled for Fall 2025 will take place in Ottawa. 

The qualifications for NPs interested in participating are listed below.  Interested individuals should email the Director of Registration Brad Walsh at [email protected] for a copy of the NP exam development volunteer application. 

Criteria for selection of item writers and reviewers includes: 

  • NP Family All Ages licensure in good standing, 
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of work experience in the clinical NP role.
  • Practice a minimum of 20 hrs/wk in FAA role.
  • Be familiar with jurisdictional regulations and standards,
  • Be knowledgeable about entry level NP competencies, 
  • Be able to work well in a group (negotiating, achieving consensus, accepting and providing of constructive criticism), 
  • Be able to travel. 

Exclusion criteria: 

  • teaching, within the previous two years, in a FAA  NP education program whose graduates may become eligible to write the exam,
  • developing/teaching NP exam review/preparation courses, 
  • publishing/contributing to NP exam review/preparation textbooks, 
  • writing items for other F/AA-PHC NP exams,
  • participating in administration of the exam.
