Releases Official Statement on Recent Anti-Vaccination Protests
The College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador has been an unwavering advocate for public protection and public health since it was founded 67 years ago. Since March 2020, the College has encouraged all Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners to follow the recommendations of the province’s Chief Medical Officer. The College released publications in September of 2020 promoting vaccinations approved by Health Canada and also released publications in January of 2021 that encouraged all RNs and NPs to fight against the spread of misinformation online.
“The past 18 months have been filled with instances of worry, anxiety and stress for health care workers and the public as a whole. The audacity of fringe groups to attempt to derail the progress we have made in fighting this pandemic is astounding, disappointing and does not represent the professional standards that are expected when identifying oneself as a Registered Nurse. The College denounces any type of anti-vaccination campaign which pose a threat to public protection.”

Regulatory bodies such as the College of Registered Nurses and Health Canada exist to provide checks and balances which are fundamental to not only the health care sector, but society as a whole. The College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador unequivocally supports evidence-based decision making and encourages all RNs and NPs to ensure the information they share is evidence-based and from trustworthy and credible sources.
