All registered nurses are responsible to provide leadership in the identification and resolution of unsafe and unethical situations. The duty to identify and address unsafe and unethical situations is a professional, ethical and legal responsibility arising out of an RN’s obligation to protect clients from harm and to uphold the integrity of the nursing profession.
Registered nurses should refer to the Registered Nurses Professional Duty to Address Unsafe and Unethical Situations document to review the framework for addressing their concerns which includes the steps of: verifying; taking action; reporting; documenting; and, following up.
CRNNL Consultants are also available to assist RNs to address practice matters within their work setting.
For information related to submitting a complaint to CRNNL about a CRNNL member please refer to the section on Duty to Report.
