NNAS
Major Steps In The Internationally Educated Nurse (IEN) Assessment Process

IEN registers with NNAS through
online portal, completes forms and
pays fees.
NNAS receives all required
documents; IEN tracks progress
online.

NNAS determines validity/
authenticity of documents.
NNAS evaluates IEN file for
comparability to Canadian standards
for entry to practice; defines gaps
and prepares an advisory report.

CRNNL
IEN picks up advisory report through
NNAS web portal and formally applies
and pays fees to CRNNL.
Assessment of Language Proficiency.

Provisional Registration granted for three
(3) year period. IEN has met requirements
for registration with exception of
successful completion of NCLEX-RN.
IEN may be eligible to apply for
interim license.

CRNNL retrieves file/advisory report from
NNAS; IEN proceeds with CRNNL
assessment.
IEN may be required to complete a
Competency Based Assessment (CBA)
and/or partial Bridging education or
full Bridging program to remediate
any gaps.

Verification of registration
Currency of Practice

Updated documentation may be required
(verification of registration, employment
references).
Required to submit Certificate of Conduct.

IEN eligible to write the national
examination – NCLEX-RN.
Registration awarded on
successful completion of national
exam.
If already NCLEX passed, proceed to step 10.

The NNAS fees are posted on the NNAS website.
Following receipt of the NNAS Advisory Report the IEN applicant must apply to CRNNL and pay the required processing fee ($373.75)
