Leadership Opportunity … Run for CRNNL Council
Would you like to shape the advancement of nursing regulation and practice in your profession? As a member of CRNNL Council you will fulfill one of the most important responsibilities of being a registered nurse (RN) - leading your regulatory body in the public’s interest. Why not run for election as a Councillor-At-Large or a Regional Councillor and/or nominate an RN who can make this valuable contribution to the profession? To be a candidate for election, the nominee must be a registered nurse who resides within the province and holds a practicing license in good standing issued by CRNNL. Any current member of CRNNL (practicing, non-practicing, honourary) can nominate an RN.
CRNNL members are invited to submit nominations for the following offices:
For an At-Large Elected Councillor the Registered Nurse shall have experience in leadership; informal or formal role or position with the following being identified as assets:
- cross-cultural experience working with diverse, marginalized or vulnerable client groups, including knowledge of indigenous health;
- understanding of the unique needs and health care challenges in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.
Regional Councillor (2020-2023):
For Regional Elected Councillors the Registered Nurse resides within a region. As a member of Council you will bring that knowledge to the Council table to assist Council in making informed decisions related to nursing regulation.
Regional Nursing Councillor for Eastern Region (2020-2023)
Eastern Region shall include the Avalon, Bonavista and Burin Peninsulas extending from St. John's West to Port Blandford inclusive.
Regional Nursing Councillor for Western Region (2020-2023)
Western Region shall extend from Port aux Basques on the southeast coast to Francois, northwest to Bartlett's Harbour and on the eastern boundary north to Jackson's Arm.
All Councillors are expected to attend Council meetings in St. John’s (approximately three) and by teleconference (eight tentative), and the Annual General Meeting. Council members will serve on at least one Council sub-committee. A time commitment and flexible schedule to allow for attending face-to-face and teleconference Council meetings is required. Participation on CRNNL Council is a voluntary role, however, all reasonable expenses associated with attending meetings are reimbursed by CRNNL. CRNNL does not provide salary reimbursement for attendance at CRNNL meetings.
The conduct of nominations and elections is an open process. At any time after the call for nominations, an individual RN may contact CRNNL and ask if there are any nominations received, the candidate’s name, and position for which the candidate is seeking election. Following the tally of online votes, the Chairperson of the Committee on Nominations will advise all candidates of the results of the election prior to the announcement at the Annual Meeting.
